Laura's Beauty Tips !

Back again..
I have a few beauty tips that I would really like to share.
I feel like they are tips that every girl needs to know, whether you spend every spare minute in the ocean or not.
They are all totally natural, and half the price of your usual hair, skin and teeth products .

Numero uno is,Coconut oil, I came across coconut oil about 1 year ago in Hawaii, since then you will never catch me travelling with out it.
I began using it  firstly as a moisturiser before bed, as time went on I started to use it for literally everything .
As any beach babe will know,  sun plus salt water are pretty much any head of hair worst nightmare !
for me being in the sun and  ocean pretty much everyday, 12 months of the year, you can only imagine how my hair usually looked.. FRIED ! I had previously tried everything,  putting conditioner on before a surf, hair masks but nothing worked until I found coconut oil.

The treatment is a overnight miracle
Now once a week I apply coconut oil to my hair all over, looking like the biggest grease ball ever,  put it in a loose plait , and leave it in over night , then wash it out the next day.
It literally feels like you have had a new head of hair  over night, its amazing I use around 3tsp and work through hair and massage well into the ends

My other favourite way to use Coco Oil is for teeth whitening.
Before brushing your teeth put about 1tsp of coconut oil in your moth and swish it around like you would mouth wash for about 15mins when you spit it out you will see instant improvements to your pearly whites.

This may sound slightly strange  Bicarbonate of Soda yes you read correctly , its by far my favourite beauty product at the moment and  it costs next to nothing.
I have been using it for about a month, and the improvements to my skin and teeth are amazing .
i use it every day  2 x a day .
I have always had pimples from wearing sunblock all the time,  unblocking my pours is super important after a long day at the beach or a full day of modelling layers of make up on.
I  had bought face exfoliators that were literally costing hundreds, and didn't see any improvement for the amount of money spending

Bicarbonate of soda

Put 2 pinches of BOS in your hand,  add a little bit of water , rub your  hands  together to make a little paste, and use it as  you would use any face wash , I  leave it on my face while i bush my teeth

I also brush my teeth with bicarbonate soda,  put a little sprinkle on top of my tooth pastern my brush, and away you go, never had such shine on my teeth .

Don't forget..  wash off the Bicarbonate of soda off your face, after a few days you will see immediate results, your skin will glow and your pimples will soon disappear .

My last little handy tip again slightly strange but equally as awesome, Apple Cider Vinegar .

I use the vinegar for various things, my favourite has to be on my skin. I use a 100ml spray bottle, fill 1/4 of the bottle with Apple Cider Vinegar and then the rest with tap water, and shake.

After washing my face with the Bicarbonate of soda I spray the watered down vinegar on.
it's crazy how fast it clears up your skin, usually I sleep with it on, however If using it in the morning and you have time, leave it on for about 20 mins then wash it off,  don't forget to rinse or else you smell a little funky !
You can also use the vinegar for teeth whitening personally I dislike the taste,  but it works really well .

Hair Routine
- coco oil oil mask .
- use bicarbonate soda as try shampoo (amazing).

Teeth Routine
-coco oil teeth whitening mouth wash .
-Brush teeth with bicarbonate soda .

Skin Routine -
-face scrub bicarbonate soda .
-apple cedar vinegar spray.

OHH It Feels Good To Be Back !

First blog in a little while as I have been crazy busy over in Bali, so decided to take some time out and have some Laura time ,back home in the UK with my family .
Missing the warm weather and water, and really really missing the food , so I have taken it upon myself to try for the first time ever to learn how to make yummy healthy foods with a few useful tips from Mummy Crane .
Here are a few of this weeks favourites .

Breakfast is always a meal that I struggle with, so a juice is way easier for me to handle in the mornings.
my mum has this AWESOME machine at home called a NINJA ! (yes its as cool as it sounds)

Ok ok so its basically just a blender but it's rad !
I would recommend buying one if you are looking to get healthy but think its too much hassle, its so quick and simple to use, even for a hopeless cook like me .

My favourite morning juice  :
Banana (half)
Mango  (half)
Kiwi       (one)
Raspberry (five)
almond milk (250ml)
oat bran    (1 tbs )

Give it a little blend, sprinkle some coconut shavings on top and BOOM you have yourself a natural juice.

I have been making juices for my little brother before school hahah (total domestic goddess ) haha hardly, but working on it.

Pre school juices by big sis .

With it being so cold here, the salads I am use to having for lunch in Bali are just not quite the belly warmer I need, so I have taken it upon myself with mummy Cranes creative input to make some soups, my latest soup venture was a split pea soup , I love making soups because you can never get it wrong the more things you add the better it gets .
here is the recipe i used .

1 cup chopped yellow onions
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/8 cup good olive oil
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1 -1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
2 cups medium-diced carrots (3 to 4 carrots)
1 cup medium-diced red boiling potatoes, unpeeled (3 small)
1 pound dried split green peas
(i added cabbage too )

As I have said before I am no kitchen master (yet) but I am learning, like anything you have to start somewhere, this is my favourite dinner I made this week, super yummy , super super healthy and super super super simple grilled salmon salad. .

Grilled salmon
Spinach leaves

Nailed it !

Snacks ohh how I love snacks I do try my best not to snack between meals but depending how my schedule is some time you need a little snack to tie you over until your next meal, so I have this week decided to try and make a healthy snack that taste super yummy as well as nutritious .
I found this recipe of a beetroot humus ,its SO yummy , infant so yummy that when i left it on the kitchen work top and came back 10 mins later family crane had gone in for the attack on my pretty pink masterpiece good job its quick and easy to make .

Pretty in Pink !

1 can of chickpeas
1 roasted beet (sliced and drizzled with olive oil)
zest of a lemon
 juice of 1 lemon
salt & pepper
2 cloves of garlic
2 tbsp tahini
1/4 cup of olive oil

Bali to Barcelona - with Mazda

After 4 months of perfect weather and waves in Bali it was time for Laura to have a new little adventure , as much as i love Bali i could not miss the whole of the European summer (ITs THE BEST ) ,so my flights got booked and before i  knew it i was en route to the city of Barcelona .

Barcelona is a place that i had always wanted to visit ,but being a surfer i would always end up ,following the waves, normal i guess its what we all seem to do , but this years new years resolution was to see places that i wouldn't usually go, weather there is waves or not ( still have a few to tick off ) .

So when i got invited to Barcelona by Mazda for their event Challenge the night it was a total no brainer , i landed in the mid day heat and we all know what a city is like , after a 20h flight in 30 degrees , (if you dont well it sucks ) .I had a driver pick me up and take me to the hotel ,at this point my whole mood changed , we pulled up to the BIGGEST MOST GIGANTIC hotel i have ever seen 32 floors up was where my hotel suite was , when i walked in to the room i was totally amazed i had a 360 degree view over the whole of Barcelona it was insane didn't even need to leave my room to get a tour of the city  . HEHE

Best hotel room EVER !

After maybe one of the best nights sleep of my life (hotel beds are the best ) i was straight in to a full days work ,along side working all day we saw all of Barcelona's beauty cute cobbled streets , beautiful buildings and beaches ,i cant even begin to tell you how the vibe in this city is ,its as though every one is celebrating something (how everyone everywhere should be ).

My day of "work" if you can call it that started by welcoming the competitors that were going to "Challenge the nigh"t ,i did a short interview with everyone , there was a competitor from almost every country in Europe , so many different personalities ( the interviews were funny to say the least as i only speak English , a vague bit of Spanish and some Portuguese )

After the interveiws we all got  in to the cars and headed to the first challenge , which was tasting in the dark this was awesome we all had to try and guess what food we had just eaten in the dark.Next stop was my challenge which was surfing , for anyone who has been to Barcelona in the summer you will know there is almost no waves ,so we got a flow rider wave mashine and i tought the competitors how to use it (not as easy as you think) , this was by far my favorite challenge we had so much fun, a few falls but everyone loved it .
After surfing we headed up to the top of the city where we had a view looking over the city at sun set it was so beautiful . \

The day finished off eating some traditional local sea food that was amazing (TAPAS I LOVE YOU) drank spanish wine   ,
we crowned the two winners and then the night of celibrations began .

i had the most amazing time in Barcelona and i cant wait to visit again soon i loved working with Mazda and cant wait for future projects .

MAZDA 2 TV commercial BTS

In the middle of european winter surfing is sometimes a struggle , however surfing in the winter and in the dead of the night you can imagine that shooting the new Mazda 2 commercial was a task, for everyone involved.

From the actors to the wardrobe design we all had our work cut out .
we would start to shoot at around 6pm shooting all night until sun rise at around 7am .
so as you can imagine it was 3 very long days and nights.

We shot the first night in Lisbon where i was sat in the passenger seat just being driven around all night a few camera shots but nothing too challenging .

The next night was no smooth sailing , we arrived to Super tubes , in Peniche which is a challenging wave to surf in broad day light and in the dark felt think an impossible challenge , but we all did what we had to do and got great shots even if it was the coldest we had ever been .

If you watch the BTS videos at this link you’ll see in a little more detail just what we had to deal with.

with all thats being said we had an awesome time we all laughed a lot mostly at each others keep warm techniques , but the sigh of relief was the biggest i have ever heard from a crew and cast when we got told we had wrapped .

my ACORN OVERSEAS orphanage visit !

Like Christmas for Santa the last day of my trip to Bali came way too soon. Bali you beautiful surfing mecca, wave-rich paradise you will be missed, but it was time to head to Thailand; a place where by best friend runs an orphanage in a little town called Mai Sot and a country I’ve never been to so I was super keen to visit and help out.

I flew from Bali to Bangkok, got in during the midday painful heat, then was meant to take me to the bus station where I would get a bus for 7 hours to the orphanage, but as always Asia hit me with another plot twist and about 1 mile away from the bus station I looked up in to the sky and saw a huge cloud of black smoke… I asked the taxi driver what it was coming from to which he far too relaxingly replied; “oh its just one of the buses that has blown up happens sometimes when it gets too hot.”

So without a second thought I called my friend / big sister Natasha who was already at the orphanage and informed her that there was zero chance of me getting a bus to Mai Sot so in her best Thai she pleaded with the taxi driver to drive me the 7 hours and like a little boss he said yes. It was the best £150 I have ever spent! Always trust your insticts when traveling guys.

I arrived to the hotel at ridiculous o clock, passed straight out for a mere 3 hours then straight to the orphanage to take all 45 kids on a day trip.
I’m not gonna lie, I was feeling a little bit nervous as I wasn’t really sure what to expect, if I’m honest when you imagine an orphanage you instantly think that it is a really sad place full of lonely kids with no parents so when I drove in that morning and had 45 of the happiest kids you can imagine running at me it was a massive, quite selfish relief! They are with out doubt some of the happiest children I have ever met, they all work together making sure no one is left out but if you had 45 brothers and sisters I think you would find it tough to be lonely!

After meeting the kids we all jumped in to two trucks and headed out on a day trip to the hot springs. The excitement levels were off the chart so when we arrived it was straight in to the pool for hours.

It was so sweet to see the bigger kids helping out the little ones who struggled to swim and was so beautiful so see them all so happy. After a few hours of playing it was time for a team lunch plated up by the kids all making sure one another had food before eating, then after a long day out we headed home with 45 very tired kids dinner was eaten and beds were calling.
Next day was full of fun again but we had to say our goodbyes which was hard to say the least, as the kids all filed out to school we kissed them all bye, had a last little snuggle with the babies and then it was time to head back to Bangkok .

I honestly can’t explain how special this experience was for me it has changed the way I will live my life forever and I can’t wait to go back and spend more time with the beautiful family at Acorn Overseas.

If you would  like to donate anything to this totally non profit charity the kids would be so Thankful, here is the link if you would like to help out the little beauties:

For those of you that don’t follow me on Instagram ,you may not know what an amazing month i have just had in Bali.

Since my last update I made another trip back to Paradise island of Lembongan and stayed in the most amazing villa with views that I can only explain through picture .

The villa

Dinner with a View

From Lembongan i headed back to Bali and did a whole load  of wave hunting ,scoring waves all around the island of Bali , with great friends which is my favourite .

Ivy and I gurfing
Road tripping with the CREW

Sharing is caring

I also went snorkelling ate in awesome cafes , among a whole load of other fun stuff .

Fishies you there ?

This year I spent most of my time in a little town called Canggu , a place that I hold now very close to my heart it is a small beach town where everything revolves around surfing coffee and socialising , swap the coffee for tea and I’m basically right at home .

Obligatory coffee shot

The local community is so tight there because everyone more or less shares the same passion for the ocean and beach so everyone just lives in perfect rhythm with each other .

Keeping an eye out

So its understandable why I spent most of my trip there .
but as always trips come to an end and it was time to move on to the next part of my trip in Thailand where i did something that has changed my life forever .

Fun little waves
